Dr. Simmons is a Family Physician with Atrium Health in the Department of Family Medicine. He is currently serving as Faculty for the Residency Program at Union Family Practice in Monroe, NC. In addition to caring for patients in the hospital at Atrium Union Hospital, Dr. Simmons practices full-scope Family Medicine providing care from newborns to geriatrics. Dr. Simmons graduated from Longwood University, Farmville, Virginia, with Bachelor of Science degrees in biology and chemistry in 2003. He earned his medical degree at Howard University College of Medicine, Washington, DC, in 2008, and in 2012, he completed his residency at Carolinas Medical Center Elizabeth Family Medicine. Dr. Simmons has a passion for the community beyond the office and hospital walls and serves on community boards such as Regional AIDS Interfaith Network (RAIN) and Charlotte PFLAG. He has also served on the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Family Physicians as the new physician board member and was previously the Minority Physicians Constituency leader for the NCAFP. He believes that the best health outcomes are achieved when physicians meet patients where they are and provide services that meet their needs, such as affordable medications, healthy food, reliable transportation, and stable housing.
