Welcome to the NCAFP! Because state chapter membership is unified with membership in the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), we are pleased to add you to our state membership of over 4,000 students, residents, and family physicians across the state.
As a welcome gift, we offer brand new members a 50% registration discount on an upcoming NCAFP meeting. To be eligible, you must have not attended a prior NCAFP meeting as an Active member. Please email the Membership Department at Membership@ncafp.com, for your eligibility confirmation and discount code.
In the meantime, these tips might be helpful as you begin your membership:
Active members: Membership is on a calendar year schedule from January 1 through December 31. Dues invoices will always be available online beginning in September at www.aafp.org/checkmydues, and the payment deadline will always be January 1. A physical invoice will be mailed to your primary address on file in your member record in October each year, so please make sure your address is correct by visiting the member portal here. Installments are always available, and you may enroll online or by calling the AAFP at 1-800-274-2237.
As an Active member, you must earn 150 CME credits every three years. To check your three-year cycle and to report CME, please visit the member portal. We provide fantastic opportunities each year to help you with this requirement right here in NC, so be sure to register for upcoming CME!
Students: Your membership is free, and you do not have CME requirements--though you are welcome to register for our CME meetings! Go to our Resources tab and select "Students" from the drop-down menu so you can check out the latest in Student news. Opportunities abound with invaluable leadership & networking opportunities; scholarships; FMIGs; externships; rural experiences & electives. Your NCAFP staff contact is Perry Price, Manager of Workforce Initiatives, and she will be navigating you through your Student membership here at the NCAFP.
Residents: Your membership is $65 and is most often paid by your residency program, though you should check with your residency coordinator to ensure your dues are paid each year to guarantee uninterrupted membership. Your membership term is July-June throughout your residency. You also do not have CME requirements, but you are welcome to register for our CME meetings. Go to our Resources tab and select "Residents" from the drop-down menu so you can check out the latest Resident news. As a Resident, you receive invaluable leadership training and New Physician preparation through the NCAFP. Your NCAFP staff contact is Perry Price, Manager of Workforce Initiatives, and she will be navigating you through your Resident membership here at the NCAFP until you transition to a New Physician.
Finally, if you move out of NC, please contact the AAFP to relocate your membership at 1-800-274-2237. If you interrupt practice for any reason or continue your studies in a fellowship, please let the AAFP know so they can move you to a more appropriate membership category.
Please reach out at any point during your membership for any questions you may have or any assistance we can provide. We hope to meet you soon! Thank you for all you do for family medicine, your patients, and your communities.
Stay safe & healthy! Again, welcome to the NCAFP. We are so glad you are here.
